The Digital Scholarship Office at LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections, The University of Texas at Austin, offers six to eight fellowships each year that provide up to a $3,000 stipend for students and scholars to undertake research or teaching projects in Latin American, U.S. Latine, African Diaspora, and/or Indigenous Studies using data, born-digital sources (e.g. websites, social media posts), or the Benson Latin American Collection’s digitized holdings AND digital methods/platforms.

This is a remote fellowship—applicants must limit their proposals to data and/or digitized content from the Benson Latin American Collection or its Latin American partners. Special consideration and funding will be given to proposals that contribute to these joint initiatives:

  * Archiving Black América<https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/llilas/centers-programs/archiving-black-america/>: A LLILAS initiative seeking to acknowledge and redress the anti-blackness of the archive. One award will be made to a proposal that meaningfully and ethically engages with collection materials and/or cultural heritage data created by or representing the Black diaspora in the Caribbean and Latin America.
  * AVAnnotate Project<https://av-annotate.org/>: An Initiative for Digital Humanities<https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/humanitiesinstitute/digital-humanities/> project that seeks to support the use of audiovisual materials in teaching, research, and public engagement, and the development of ethical practices and protocols for this type of cultural heritage. Up to three proposals will be awarded, and fellows will have the opportunity to apply for a project extension grant if funding is available. Upper-division undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and community scholars, regardless of institutional affiliation, may apply. These fellowships are funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Proposals must be submitted by FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2023. Please see our call for proposals for more information and application instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ssJfozWAZ5qqsP6-GMMZ6YMsaUV_MU6RLfkCAH24g5I/edit
