The Criadas Project

As the micro-grants deadline approaches, we want to give a shout out to one of our previous awardees.

The Criadas Project, led by Dr. Sarah Bruno, focuses on uncovering and amplifying the lives of poor Black girls and women in early 1900s Puerto Rico, a group often marginalized and overlooked in historical records. The project seeks to contribute to the broader scholarship on young Black life in Puerto Rico and across Caribbean discourses that center on the legacies of slavery in everyday life. It also examines how these historical narratives influence the way contemporary Puerto Ricans shape their present and future.
