[CDRC-dolphins] Upcoming Events & Notices for CDRC

[Student Asst 2, Child Dev Ctr]

Hi Parents, 

 

The Parent Organization met this past Tuesday, January 5th.  At the
meeting, parents discussed activities for the months of January through
April.  Below is our tentative scheduled activities.  We will forward
more information as events are arranged and confirmed.

UNF BASKETBALL GAME

Sign-Up sheets for this event will be posted once the event is
confirmed. The plan is to meet at CDRC at 6:00 pm for pizza and drinks.
The drink/combo will be $1.  We will then head over to the arena to
cheer on the UNF Men's Basketball team as they play against
Jacksonville.   MORE INFORMATION WILL BE FORTHCOMING.

PUMP IT UP 

We are in the process of arranging a PUMP IT UP NIGHT for CDRC.  A
signup sheet is in the front office.  We need a minimum of 40 children
to attend this event.  We are charging $5 per child to attend. Please
pre-pay by Friday, January 15th.  If we do not have a minimum of 40
children attend, the event will be canceled and we will try to arrange
an alternative event for February.

Camp Fire at UNF Nature Trails

The Parent Org. with assistance from the UNF Nature Trail Rangers will
sponsor a campfire.  Families will be able to roast hot dogs and
marshmallows over a comfy fire.  A storyteller will be present to
entertain the families.

Dance Night

Joanna Ursal, a fellow CDRC parent,  has volunteered to teach a dance
night for families.  Ms. Ursal is a former teacher of Douglas Anderson
High School (Magnet Arts School) and has volunteered to share her skills
for a fun dance oriented activity.  More information will be forthcoming
about this event as we get closer to April. 

 

 

Following the parent organization agenda, Pam Bell presented Conscious
Discipline material for the parents with a question/answer session on
how to implement conscious discipline techniques.  The Conscious
discipline topics covered were:

 

-      Request vs. command 

o   Example of a request: Could you please bring me my gloves?  The
child has a choice as to whether they want to be helpful or not.  If
they bring the gloves, we say thank you.  

o   Example of a command: Walk on the sidewalk.  The child has no choice
and the parent should not follow up the command with thank you.  

 

-      How to appropriately praise your child - Example:  You did it!
You put all of your toys away! 

-      How to feel connected to your child.   - When your child is
looking for your attention, they are actually looking to feel connected
to you.  Take a moment of your time and give them your attention. Thirty
seconds of your attention will help your child to feel secure and loved.


 

Administrative notes for parents: 

 

*         Payment is due for the billing period of 1/4/10 - 1/15/10.  We
did not post billing today for the period of 1/18/10 - 1/29/10 due to
technical difficulties; it will instead be posted on 1/15/10.  After
1/15/10, we will resume our regular billing schedule.  Thanks for your
patience. 

 

*         If you are a UNF student taking at least 6 credit hours during
the Spring 10, I need a copy of your course schedule on file in order to
continue to receive the student discount.  Please bring a copy of your
course schedule to the front office as soon as possible.  

 

*         Scholastic Book orders are due 1/14.  Order forms are in your
child's swing folder.  You can also order online at:
