Hello all,
We have added a new course to the list of Spring 2020 DH Minor courses. The information is below – please spread the word!
ST: Remote Sensing - 13718 - GEO 4930 - 0 is now open for registration.
The class will meet from 1.30-2.45 Mon & Weds in Bldg 57.
In this class, we will learn how to design, build and test our own equipment for gathering landscape-level imagery using pole, balloon, kite and drone aerial photography. We will also learn about remote sensing imagery acquisition and processing (using advanced software) to create useful and actionable information.
Learning to gather and process aerial imagery using different platforms are sought-after skills.
It’s a fun, hands-own class where you will build equipment (such as kites and camera housings) and go outside and test their ability to fly and carry a payload. You will also learn to make and modify 3D designs using TinkerCad and use a 3D printer to create them. You will also learn how to fly research grade kites with cameras (on campus and at the beach), and experience balloon and pole aerial photography. Finally, you will learn how to fly a drone and acquire and process that imagery.
GIS and Remote Sensing are core topics in any geospatial program, so if you like this technology, want to possess these skills and be attractive to employers and graduate programs, then this class is for you.
By the way, the class is capped at 20 students, so if you are interested (and who wouldn’t be?), then register today.
