Hello all,
If you missed this week's "How to Research Local Black History" roundtable featuring Dr. Yolanda L. Rivers and Willie Character (Okefenokee Heritage Center - Black Heritage Committee), Mitch Hemann (Jacksonville Historical Society) and Kimberlyn Elliott (Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center), it was really superb and substantive conversation and I'd like to thank Dr. Felicia Bevel (History) for moderating. If you'd like to catch up, you can watch the recording here<https://youtu.be/ZhiJv5HEyaw>.
In addition to our Spring meeting of the DHI Advisory Committee scheduled for Friday, March 19th at 3pm, we have a few more excellent events planned for this spring:
On Friday, March 12th at noon, the DHI is partnering with the Office of Faculty Enhancement to host Cailin O'Connor and James Weatherall (co-authors of The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread) to give a talk titled, "Misinformation During the Covid-19 Pandemic." I’ve attached the flyer (which includes registration link) for this event – PLEASE CIRCULATE. You can register directly for the talk here<https://unf.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_IOG7bPUSR9qdFGSCSrxZJg>.
As a follow up to that event, we are partnering again with OFE on Friday, March 19th at noon to run a faculty roundtable on "How We Teach Misinformation Now" featuring faculty from Brooks, the School of Computing, Political Science, Communications, English, and others. Register here<https://unf.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIlf--spzwuEtV9dOCRVSx7myrHEdkT-AcG>.
Later on Friday, March 19th at 3pm will be our spring meeting of the DHI Advisory Committee, open to all faculty, students, and staff affiliated with the DHI. I will send out an agenda and last meeting's minutes a week prior to that meeting. You can sign up to receive the zoom link here<https://unf.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYuc-mppzktHtIx_L7aVtOYHYAodl5niKUU>.
On Saturday, March 13th from 1pm-4pm, Lynne Hemmingway will run a remote TEI-XML editing workshop for Editing the Eartha M. M. White Collection that will be open to all. Editing the Eartha M. M. White Collection<https://unfdhi.org/earthawhite/>, is a collaborative textual editing project that creates, edits, and publishes transcriptions of materials from the Eartha M. M. White Collection, housed in the Special Collections of the University of North Florida's Thomas G. Carpenter Library. At the Editing the Eartha M. M. White Collection Transcribe-a-thon (and Edit-a-thon), participants will be able to work on transcribing documents and/or editing documents using TEI-XML in a three hour session. I have attached an e-flyer for this event and you can sign up for the meeting here<https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040848aaa92da1fc1-eartha>.
Looking forward!,
