Colleagues-

Please see below for two exciting updates regarding one of DHI’s most collaborative and impressive projects, Water Stories!

Update 1:
Dr. Tru Leverette Hall and Dr. Maureen McCluskey presented their interactive workshop entitled “Motivation: Renewing Our Energy for Action” at the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment‘s Green Fire Conference on Friday, May 17. This workshop outlines their collaborative project Water Stories and uses the project as a platform to explore motivation—which the presenters define as embodied, emotional, and spiritual energies—as a source for action in academic and public settings.

Update 2:
Dr Kailan Sindelar's VR 360 Capture for Water Stories, in partnership with Jimmy Orth of St John's Riverkeeper and Kristopher Smith of LISC Jacksonville. VR and its affordances of immersion and interactivity have been shown to help some users better understand environmental concerns (Fauville et al., 2020; Steffen et al., 2019). However, planning, capturing, developing, and sharing VR experiences is still a nascent process—especially in the humanities where rhetorical considerations may guide the process.

I hope everyone is having a good summer! Feel free to email me when you have project updates you’d like to share.

Best,

Josh
