Greetings fine colleagues. As spring registration is underway, would you please let your grad students (and fellow colleagues who work with grad students) know that in addition to our traditional online Intro to GIS course: GEO 6506 Economic Geography and GIS, we are offering two more courses. Please see below.
Thank you,
Chris

As you plan your spring schedule, keep in mind that we are offering 2 more in-person geospatial courses next semester. Please see below.
The first course is GIS 6051: GIS and Geospatial Technologies. This class focuses on remote sensing and GIS. Here, we will learn how to find, download and analyze imagery datasets acquired from satellites, aerial photography and drone photography.
During the first part of the class, we will learn about imagery and analysis using ArcGIS Pro software. The second part involves experiential learning in a maker space, where you will build and test your own platforms for acquiring aerial photography using poles, kites and balloons, as well as get introduced to drones. This class is a lot of fun and students really enjoy building things with their hands and testing them, learning to create 3D models, use the 3D printer, and getting an introduction to VR. This class is great to learn about environmental modeling, data acquisition and field methods. Students from this course have gone on to GIS internships and jobs.

The second course is: GEO6936 ST Drone Technologies. This new spring semester course will focus on learning about drones, how they work, how to plan missions and then fly them to acquire imagery data. You will hear from guest speakers who are drone practitioners, get trained to process the imagery, and create actionable data as a complete workflow. Along the way you will learn how you can take the FAA Part 107 drone pilot test to become a certified drone pilot.
We look forward to seeing you in one or both classes next semester. We also encourage you to get this training, which enhances your knowledge of geospatial technologies and can give you an edge as you search for internships, jobs or additional graduate studies.
Let me know if you have questions.
