Hi, all! I trust you had some time to unplug from your digital lives the last couple of weeks. Now that we are plugging in again, and the digital life that is our UNF Digital Humanities Institute, I wanted to make you aware of some new news!

  1.
Dr. Laura Heffernan has received news that her NEH grant, Training in the Archives, has been awarded. This is tremendous news for DHI affiliated faculty and units across campus. There will be more info forthcoming on this award and its announcement soon. Congratulations, Laura and Susan!
  2.
The Eartha MM White Legacy Fund has made a donation to the Digital Humanities Institute in the amount of $5000 to start a Foundation Account. This means that if you need funds for food at your DHI-related events this year, we can support that through foundation funds.
  3.
The realMLS Board of Directors authorized a $20,000 donation to UNF DHI for 2024. You may recognize realMLS as providing home pricing services, but they are an historic company here in Jacksonville with decades of home pricing data. This donation can further UNF's commitment to assisting communities who encountered redlining understand their true property values.
  4.
Dr. Kailan Sindelar has been added as a PI on a 2.2. million dollar grant application. The AISL Integrating Research and Practice Project examines how extended realities (XR)—including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR)— enhance learning outcomes in zoos, aquaria and related informal STEM learning settings. Best wishes to Kailan for this grant!
  5.
Kailan also met recently with President Limayem and VP Scott Verkamp on involving UNF DHI in the UNF Plan for Usability and User Experience.
  6.
Applications for the NEH “Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities" grant are due Feb 15. This program “supports national or regional (multistate) training programs for scholars, humanities professionals, and advanced graduate students to broaden and extend their knowledge of digital humanities." Josh and I will be soliciting interest from some of you that use specific digital tools about hosting a conference here at UNF and how this grant could help with that.
  7.
The first DHI Digital Badge "Archival Research" is in its final stages before going live! This digital badge can be used by multiple departments as part of a student's coursework, as prerequisite for future coursework, or as part of an internship or independent study. More details to come!

Thanks for all you do for UNF DHI, and here's to a great spring semester!
Best,
James Beasley
