Dear all,
I'd like to congratulate Dr. Gellers on his new position as Dean of Professional and Lifelong Learning (here's the announcement from last Friday<https://t.e2ma.net/message/vyr44g/fqmycgb>, in case you missed it) and thank him for his leadership of the DHI this year. We're fortunate to have director-elect Dr. Jessica Chandras set to take over in Fall 2027, and with your help, DHI student assistant Breena Long and I will endeavor to keep things running until then.
Agenda items for March 6
As previously announced, the spring meeting of the DHI Advisory Committee will take place over Zoom on Friday, March 6, 3-4:30 PM (here's the Zoom link<https://unf.zoom.us/j/85784625293?pwd=DBYqVhlKPr17Sl6TCg16uTZU2yAqUZ.1>). Please send me any agenda items by Friday, 3/27. Updates on any DHI-related projects are encouraged. If you have any new projects you will like to have added to the DHI's portfolio, please send me the information described on the Proposing Projects<https://www.unf.edu/dhi/projects/proposals.html> page of the DHI website.
As always, the meeting will be open to all who are interested in attending. These events are an opportunity to learn more about what the DHI does, and you do not need to be member of the Advisory Committee to participate.
Showcase
The 2026 DHI Digital Projects Showcase was scheduled for April 10, but given the current leadership transition, I think we will be best able to hold a successful event if we postpone until the fall. I will have more details about a possible plan for this year's showcase when we meet on March 6.
Funding applications
As Dr. Gellers announced last week, the DHI is accepting a final round of funding applications for the year. I'm copying here the language from his message, for your convenience:
The Digital Humanities Institute (DHI) invites applications in support of projects and activities related to the DHI's mission to support interdisciplinary research that combines technology with materials and methodologies from the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences. To have your project or activity considered for funding from monies remaining in the 2025-2026 budget, please apply by March 13 using this form<https://forms.office.com/r/g16S0ic6Qr>. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis after that date, pending availability of funds.
All expenses related to approved applications must be made by May 31, 2026. Funding can be used by May 31 to pay for advanced costs (registration, airfare, etc.) related to conference or research travel that will take place after May 31, provided a spend authorization for that travel is approved.
Applications for funding summer internships should be submitted by the student's faculty mentor. If the application relates to a for-credit internship, the student would need to be registered for Summer A or C.
I look forward to seeing everyone on March 6.
Sincerely,
Clayton

Subject: [UNF-DHI] DHI Leadership Change
Colleagues-
By now you may have read the news that I’ll be moving out of my faculty role and into an administrative one. This was not originally in the cards when I started as Director of DHI, but the opening presented an uncommon opportunity that I felt compelled to explore.
The good news is that DHI will remain in good hands. I am grateful that Dr. Clayton McCarl, the person who brought me into DHI years ago and served as its first Director, has agreed to serve as Interim Director until the fall of 2027, when Dr. Jessica Chandras, Director-Elect, will assume the duties.
In the short time I spent as DHI Director, we co-sponsored nearly 20 events, formalized the process of applying for DHI funding, supported faculty research and student experiential learning (especially where Federal funding was withdrawn), combined two subcommittees, drafted our first bylaws, and strengthened our partnership with a key donor, realMLS. In my opinion, the future has never been brighter for DHI with experienced and emerging leaders at the helm and in the wings.
Thank you to everyone who continues to participate in DHI in myriad ways, enriching our campus and the broader community. I’d argue that DHI is needed now more than ever and I have confidence that all of you will shepherd it into the uncertain future with curiosity, care, and compassion.
Take care and don’t be a stranger! I’ll still be on campus, just in a different building.
Best,
Josh
