Happy October! We hope that the beginning of the term went as smoothly as possible for you. <br>

We kicked off the academic year with a wonderful talk on teaching digital humanities on a shoestring by <strong>Danica Savonick</strong>. Last month, we also launched our first <strong>DEFCon Institutional Partnership</strong> at the University of Texas at Austin!<strong> DEFCon </strong>is delighted to be partnering with <strong>Tanya Clement, </strong>who is leading the <a href="https://digitalethnicfutures.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5151ed728135669aebbd4f52c&id=fdad8cd960&e=1efca30d86" style="color:#007c89;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Digital Humanities Initiative</a>, and <strong>Samantha Pinto,</strong> who is directing the Humanities Institute at UT-Austin. A DEFCon Institutional Partnership is an opportunity for universities that have access to resources for digital humanities to leverage this access to support digital scholarship in ethnic studies fields. UT-Austin is using their Faculty Fellows Seminar to support the work of faculty in "Digital Futures and Social Justice." We had the opportunity to meet some of the fellows, who are doing exciting work on topics including housing justice, disinformation, and land dispossession. Welcome to DEFCon, UT-Austin! <br>

Our model with UT-Austin is just one of the many ways we might build on the work of DEFCon to push our institutions to support digital ethnic futures! <br>
