UNF Environmental Center Hosts First Annual Green Week
	
	The Environmental Center at the University of North Florida is hosting its first annual Green Week, starting Monday, Oct. 25, and running through Friday, Oct. 29, in an effort to make UNF a “greener” campus. The week will kick off with a tree planting and will end with a boat expedition on the St. Johns River.  Check our website for more information: http://www.unf.edu/dept/ecenter.

	Here are the following 2010 Green Week activities:

Green Ospreys Tree Planting: 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, Student Union Pond—Green Ospreys, a new environmental club on campus, will plant nine cherry trees surrounding the pond in the core of campus in front of the Student Union. UNF President John Delaney will plant the first tree, so be sure to come out and show him the Osprey Pride!!!

Sustainability Exposition & ACUPCC Signing by Delaney: 8:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 26, Student Union Auditorium— Come witness the signing of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) by UNF President John Delaney from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.  Before the signing learn how sustainability is taking shape at UNF through current initiatives in recycling, energy conservation, and green buildings. The UNF Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and Projections Report will also be released. 

Garbage on the Green: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, Student Union—The University will reveal the garbage it throws away during its fourth trash and recycling audit, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be free food, T-shirts and educational booths. A campus cleanup will take place before the audit from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This University-sponsored event is aimed at educating students, faculty and staff about ways to reduce campus trash by emphasizing litter prevention and recycling.  Exhibitors will also be there to accept recyclable donations: Teacher Supply Depot, E-Scrap, & Florida Department of Environmental Protection. 



Faculty Forum on Teaching and Research on the Environment: Thursday, Oct. 28, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., College of Education and Human Services, Building 57, Room 1100B—The forum is designed to convene faculty interested in UNF’s teaching and scholarly efforts regarding the environment. Keynote speaker will be Dr. David Tegeder, a professor from Santa Fe College in Gainesville and author of “Ditch of Dreams: The Cross Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida’s Future,” which recently won a Florida Historical Society award. This event is not open to the public. 

St. Johns River Boat Expedition: noon to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, St. Johns River—Faculty, staff and students will be taking a two-hour boat tour of the St. Johns River to experience the rich natural history and environment with presentations by the St. Johns Riverkeeper Neil Armingeon and author Bill Belleville. Some students will be participating as part of a course in the History of the St. Johns River being taught by Dr. Charles Closmann. This event is not open to the public.
