1. The EPA case before the Supreme Court is said not to concern anything critical to climate action. http://grist.org/climate-energy/courts-epa-move-puts-smiles-on-green-faces/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=EDIT%20Daily&utm_campaign=daily

2. The six-part series Tipping Points on The Weather Channel highlights the likelihood, timing, and implications of a series of discontinuities in the global climate such as the demise of the Amazonian jungle, the disintegration of the Greenland ice sheet, and the cessation of the thermohaline conveyor belt. The first installment was broadcast last Saturday evening at 9. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2013/oct/19/climate-change-tipping-points-stories-future
The Weather Channel is running a few clips but not repeating the show, at least in the next week, and I can find no source for streaming. Here’s some further info on the series from the Huffington Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/14/the-tipping-points-weather-channel_n_4098382.html

3. UN climate leader Christiana Figueres describes the schedule of negotiations leading to an agreement in 2015. She broke into tears at the thought of condemning future generations through inaction and said that she found it unfair and immoral. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-24615946

4. The Koch brothers joined the US Chamber of Congress in lobbying against the use of the social cost of carbon (such as the condemnation of the unborn) when calculating the impact of climate action. http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/329671-us-chamber-kochs-join-social-cost-of-carbon-lobbying-battle

5. The Koch brothers stand to make $100 billion if the Keystone XL pipeline is constructed. They hold up to 2 million acres in Alberta where the shale oil originates. http://ecowatch.com/2013/10/20/koch-brothers-100-billion-profit-keystone-xl-pipeline-built/

6. Jim Hansen sees hope of countering the natural gas lobby with a carbon tax, though if successful it will recall David’s victory over Goliath. http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/2013/20131021_DavidVsGoliath.pdf

7. A new study finds that by the end of the century almost every part of the global ocean systems will be degraded by carbon pollution. http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-ocean-climate-change-effects-century-20131015,0,6711896.story
The study was based on IPCC data. But the oceans are in worse shape than we thought. http://e360.yale.edu/digest/world_ocean_conditions_worsethan_previously_thought_analysis_finds/3975/

8. The World Bank has called for a global public-private effort to save the oceans. http://www.worldbank.org/en/news/feature/2013/10/16/global-influencers-turn-the-tide-toward-ocean-health
