1. Media claims that an increase in polar sea ice area supports the idea that the earth is cooling deserve roasting, and get it from the Guardian. The Guardian takes on only the British sources of the story, but they have been widely copied. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2013/sep/09/climate-change-arctic-sea-ice-delusions

2. An article in PNAS calculates the benefits of acting to reduce short-lived greenhouse forcers such as methane and black carbon. The effect is so small that efforts are better put toward reducing CO2. http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2013/08/09/1308470110.abstract

3. An arduous 5-year study of Pine Island Glacier in the West Antarctic shows that much of its melt comes through a series of channels, one in effect a river valley, below the ice. http://www.climatecentral.org/news/study-finds-channels-of-meltwater-eroding-pine-island-glacier-in-antarctica-16463?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+climatecentral%2FdjOO+Climate+Central+-+Full+Feed Warming ocean water undermining the glacier is a major factor in its melt. The project should lead to more accurate sea level rise projections. http://e360.yale.edu/digest/warmer_ocean_water_is_key_factor_in_melting_ice_shelves_study_says/3951/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+YaleEnvironment360+%28Yale+Environment+360%29

4. The Seattle Times has run a good overview of ocean acidification and its effects, including brain damaged fish and disappearing pteropods. http://apps.seattletimes.com/reports/sea-change/2013/sep/11/pacific-ocean-perilous-turn-overview/

5. Tiny plankton adapt to growing acidity better than do large plankton. The food chain will be disrupted, as well as the ability of the oceans to absorb carbon and to influence cloud formation. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/09/130913085756.htm?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sciencedaily+%28ScienceDaily%3A+Latest+Science+News%29

6. Where new housing areas are being developed, utilities may find it cheaper to support rooftop solar than to beef up the power grid. http://insideclimatenews.org/news/20130912/why-are-some-big-utilities-embracing-small-scale-solar-power

7. A serious increase in dengue fever in South Florida appears to be linked to climate change. http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2013/9/12/dengue-fever-presenceinfloridaataprettyseriouslevel.html
