1. The average high water marks on Midwestern US rivers are rising at an inch a year. Flood insurance and control systems have not kept pace. The seven minute video on abrupt climate change generalizes on the observation that gradual changes can manifest as abruptly changed conditions. http://climatecrocks.com/2015/07/06/study-flood-risk-underestimated-rising-due-to-climate-change/

2. The Chinese government is beginning to attend to sustainable development practices. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-cohen/sustainability-policy-is_b_7735064.html

3. Current and anticipated emissions control pledges to the UN likely will be insufficient to avoid catastrophic warming. Local and private efforts could supplement the controls sufficiently while allowing for sustainable growth, according to a study led by Felipe Calderón, the former president of Mexico. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/07/major-polluter-pledges-not-enough-to-meet-emissions-targets-says-report

4. The 250 cities represented by the bipartisan US Conference of Mayors has called for a program of climate education in high schools. http://cleantechnica.com/2015/07/06/bipartisan-mayors-taking-stand-climate-change/?utm_source=Cleantechnica+News&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=9da92fc689-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_b9b83ee7eb-9da92fc689-331994013

5. Small electric robocabs could combine with a transition to renewable electricity generation to reduce US greenhouse gas emissions from car travel by 87-94% by 2030, according to a Lawrence Berkeley Lab study published in Nature Climate Change. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/06/electric-robocabs-reduce-us-greenhouse-emissions-94-percent-study

6. "When the End of Human Civilization Is Your Day Job" portrays climate scientists who have become convinced that disruptive changes are underway and find it difficult to deal with the knowledge emotionally. Jason Box, Gavin Schmidt, Camille Parmesan, and Michael Mann are among those interviewed. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a36228/ballad-of-the-sad-climatologists-0815/

7. When Yvo de Boer or a scientist breaks down publically over the strain of dealing with climate disruption, does it help or hurt their impact? http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/09/is-it-ok-scientists-weep-over-climate-change When in the 1990s Bulgarians surrounded their legislature and wept it helped pressure the government to resign en masse. I could easily contribute to such an effort with our congress.
