1. Shellfish which survive will diminish in size as the oceans become more acidic. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/may/16/global-warming-shellfish-warning

2. The Great Transition from the Earth Policy Institute reminds us of the indications that the transition to renewable energy is underway globally. http://ecowatch.com/2015/05/17/renewable-energy-revolution/

3. Shell Oil takes a public stance welcoming an energy revolution, but internal documents reveal a strategy based on an assumption of a catastrophic 6C of heat. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/may/17/shell-accused-of-strategy-risking-catastrophic-climate-change 98.9% of shareholders voted to require Shell to report on how company plans related to a goal of keeping warming to 2C. http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/may/19/climate-change-shell-annual-meeting-oil-global-warming-resolution-shareholders

4. An interview with philosopher Dale Jamieson, author of Reason in a Dark Time, indicates that he is well aware of the climate situation and has useful perspectives on the attitudes with which we would be better equipped to deal with it. The interviewer asks some obtuse questions, which gives NYU professor Jamieson a chance to demonstrate how to deal with such. http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/05/18/can-green-virtues-help-us-survive-climate-change/?emc=edit_tnt_20150518&nlid=43628374&tntemail0=y

5. Joe Romm takes on recent claims in a Nature essay and a piece by David Roberts which essentially reduce to a position that 2C is not a viable goal (it is, though not an easy one), and to complaints that climate scientists have been both too timid to tell us the truth and too shrill and threatening when they do open their mouths. So why listen to climate scientists? Bad ideas, both of them, the results of basing sloppy thinking on poor memory. http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2015/05/18/3644824/really-awful-truth-about-climate-change/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=cptop3

6. When the full price of energy is included, the International Monetary Fund finds that global energy subsidies will reach $5.3 trillion in 2015, more than government health spending and more than twice as much as in 2011. The full price includes environmental and health effects of energy production and use. The IMF recommends gradually including externalized costs in energy rates. http://news.yahoo.com/global-energy-subsidies-hit-5-3-tn-imf-194458206.html

7. Investors representing over $25 trillion have cooperated to produce a web page dedicated to tracking and promoting investment in the transition to renewable energy. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-05-19/investors-with-25-trillion-detail-opportunity-in-climate-change

8. California has joined eleven other states and provinces in the US, Mexico, Canada, England, Brazil, Germany, and Spain in a resolution geared to hold warming to 2C. The group represents 100 million citizens and $4.5 trillion in economic production. http://www.ibtimes.com/california-joins-12-state-climate-change-agreement-ahead-2015-un-conference-paris-1930018
