1. The current increase of winter lows in the Arctic could lead to less mixing of the cold, dense surface water as storms move father north and therefore to a slowing of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation. From this Climate Central analysis the impact does not seem severe or immediate. http://www.climatecentral.org/news/arctic-storms-the-climate-danger-nobodys-talking-about-15363

2. Steve Patterson of the FL Times-Union has addressed the vulnerability of Jacksonville to sea level rise and the city's attempts to plan (and not to plan) for it. http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2015-12-31/story/many-questions-few-plans-handling-sea-level-changes-jacksonville

3. Flooding, heat, drought, and storms are calling more attention to the gathering problems with the climate. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/31/science/climate-chaos-across-the-map.html?_r=0 Our new climate is beginning to appear in pop culture set in the future. http://grist.org/living/climate-change-is-showing-up-in-blockbusters-and-binge-watches-so-what/

4. As oil companies mounted a lavishly funded propaganda battle to deny climate science they adjusted to a changing climate in designing their production facilities. http://graphics.latimes.com/oil-operations/#nt=outfit

5. Renewable energy is booming globally even as the prices of fossil fuels fall. A continued low price for natural gas could constitute an impediment to the necessary energy transition. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/wind-solar-power-soar-in-spite-of-bargain-prices-for-fossil-fuels/2015/12/30/754758b8-af19-11e5-9ab0-884d1cc4b33e_story.html

6. James Hansen has for years argued that nuclear power needs to be part of the energy transition. Stanford's Mark Jacobson replies that the drawbacks and opportunity costs are prohibitive, and that nuclear power releases significant carbon. http://ecowatch.com/2016/01/04/mark-jacobson-james-hansen/?utm_source=EcoWatch+List&utm_campaign=c62da27979-Top_News_1_4_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_49c7d43dc9-c62da27979-85965093?
