1. James Hansen and Makiko Sato supply an improved graph of global temperature change since 1880. http://csas.ei.columbia.edu/2016/09/26/a-better-graph/

2. A newly compiled comprehensive temperature record stretches back two million years. Previously, the longest such record went back 22,000 years. The new record generally supports raising estimates of the long-term sensitivity of the climate to greenhouse gasses, though some researchers have called for further confirmation of that finding. http://www.nature.com/news/longest-historic-temperature-record-stretches-back-2-million-years-1.20673 At 2C of warming we will be hotter than at any other time in the past two million years. http://www.ecowatch.com/earth-record-temperatures-2020710545.html

3. George Monbiot explores the conclusion in Bill McKibben's article of this week that we must choose between ensuring a livable future for the planet and continuing to develop fossil fuels. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/sep/27/fracking-digging-drilling-paris-agreement-fossil-fuels

4. The president of the UN's World Meteorological Organization warned a White House meeting that the pace of change in the Arctic is outrunning our ability to monitor it and to predict its course. Part of the problem is the lack of historical data which would allow natural variability to be distinguished from human forcing. http://climatenewsnetwork.net/speed-of-arctic-changes-defies-scientists/

5. A robust eggbeater-like turbine promises to harvest enormous amounts of energy from typhoons. http://inhabitat.com/worlds-first-typhoon-turbine-could-power-all-of-japan-for-50-years/

6. An Indian design for a solar panel tree uses 1% of the land area of a normal array. Four square feet pf horizontal space can power five Indian homes (or, with 5 kilowatts, one American home). http://inhabitat.com/indias-new-solar-power-tree-can-light-5-homes-in-just-4-sq-ft-of-land/?utm_source=Inhabitat+Weekly+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=b86991ec13-&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_edda39917e-b86991ec13-207513645

7. Donald Trump's views on energy and climate are ignorant and his suggestions range from unhelpful to disastrous, if you were in doubt on the matter. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/29/donald-trump-energy-proposals-coal-natural-gas

8. By copying the serrated trailing edges of owls' wings, Siemens has cut the noise generated by its wind turbines without compromising their energy output. http://cleantechnica.com/2016/09/30/new-siemens-low-noise-wind-turbine-inspired-flight-owls/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IM-cleantechnica+%28CleanTechnica%29 ?
