1. Germany is moderating its production of renewable power because its grid has not kept pace and because its abundance of cheap power is stalling the transition to renewables in other countries, causing political friction. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/oct/11/germany-takes-steps-to-roll-back-renewable-energy-revolution

2. The usual model for the use of renewable energy in commercial generation has been a baseload of fossil fuels with the renewables as an intermittent supplement. In practice, the model is being reversed, with little role for such inflexible (and expensive) sources as nuclear energy and for large fossil fuels plants which need to be taken offline for maintenance intermittently. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/articles/2016/10/baseload-vs-flexibility-standing-the-traditional-generation-model-on-its-head.html?

3. A group of 250 global investors with more than $24tn in assets has warned car manufacturers that must ready themselves for a low-carbon world. The group is concerned with the viability of the industry. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/oct/12/investors-warn-car-industry-over-climate-change

4. Methane emissions from fossil fuel production are 20-60% higher than some widely used current estimates, according to a NOAA study. It also found that recent methane spikes derive from biological sources. https://insideclimatenews.org/news/11102016/noaa-study-says-fossil-fuel-industrys-contribution-global-methane-problem-more-thought

5. The temporary lakes which form on Greenland's surface and then drain to lubricate the glacial bottom as it slides toward the Atlantic are due to spread and become more numerous. Some lakes drain directly to the ocean, where they draw warmer water to speed undercutting of the larger glaciers in a potential feedback. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2016/10/11/how-greenlands-ice-is-melting-from-above-and-below/?utm_term=.2d18cc5854e2

6. At a post-Matthew rally in Florida, Al Gore and Hillary Clinton observed that the hurricane was stronger and wetter, and the storm surge higher, because of climate change. The 3.5-minute video at the top of the first link explains why. The issue could help tip the state Democratic. https://climatecrocks.com/2016/10/12/gop-climate-denial-will-erode-with-florida-beaches/ More on the Miami rally: http://www.ecowatch.com/clinton-gore-climate-change-2040348663.html
