1. A comparative analysis of programs to measure earth's heating finds that NOAA deserves the prize with its estimate that the earth is heating more rapidly than we had thought. The article provides an overview of the difficulties involved in measurement. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2017/jan/04/new-study-confirms-noaa-finding-of-faster-global-warming

2. Ice cores from the Antarctic indicate that about 15,000 years ago, melt in the region caused an abrupt rise in sea level when conditions were similar to the present. https://phys.org/news/2017-01-climate-trigger-strong-sea.html

3. The Larsen C ice shelf is set to calve a massive iceberg. The rest of the shelf will probably be destabilized, leading to increased movement of ground-based ice to the ocean. http://www.ecowatch.com/larsen-c-ice-shelf-2182046497.html?utm_source=EcoWatch+List&utm_campaign=1e7b8d27b7-MailChimp+Email+Blast&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_49c7d43dc9-1e7b8d27b7-85965093

4. China is cementing its dominance in renewable energy technology and manufacturing. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jan/06/china-cementing-global-dominance-of-renewable-energy-and-technology

5. China plans to spend at least $360 billion on renewable energy by 2020. http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/05/world/asia/china-renewable-energy-investment.html?emc=edit_tnt_20170105&nlid=43628374&tntemail0=y&_r=0

6. Tesla's gigafactory is now operating in Nevada. It will manufacture enough batteries each year to supply up to 1.5 million electric vehicles, and supply the cells for Tesla's Powerwall 2 and Powerpack 2 energy storage installations. http://inhabitat.com/tesla-and-panasonic-begin-battery-production-at-gigafactory/?utm_source=Inhabitat+Weekly+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=f59b942bd5-&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_edda39917e-f59b942bd5-207513645

7. Jigger Shah has a plan to lead Mexico to pay for a border wall (happily) and even give us something extra. The proposal reads at first as a joke, but it doesn't quite stay that way. https://climatecrocks.com/2017/01/06/a-solar-wall-one-way-to-make-mexico-pay/ ?
