[GWSG] Facing the Surge; NOAA on slr; climate as destabilizer; $1/watt; Trump muzzles scientists; lost decade

1.  Diogo Freire sends word that his film Facing the Surge will run at the Cinema Verde Film Festival in Gainesville, FL's Hippodrome Cinema Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3.  I saw it and recommend its depiction of the sea level rise faced by everyone on the coast, and its support of the Citizens' Climate Lobby, working for effective action through a carbon tax.



2.   New NOAA sea level rise scenarios describe a worst-case rise of  2.5 meters (8.2 feet) by the century's end.  The projection has been in the works for a year.  https://phys.org/news/2017-01-scientists-bar-sea.html  Since April government representatives Margaret Davidson and John Pershing have publicly foreseen 2-3 meter rises by midcentury, so the NOAA figures are likely to increase-if, indeed, the Trump administration allows NOAA to continue to function. 3. 4.  In 2011, former Secretary of Energy Steven Chu set a target of $1 per watt for the construction of fixed-tilt utility scale photovoltaic systems as of 2020.  The target was part of the SunShot initiative.  The cost at that time was $4 per watt. 6.  If the pre-industrial temperature base is set back from 1850 to 1820 as a team of scientists recommend, we have already warmed 1.1C.  That essentially loses us a decade of time to act vigorously to avoid exceeding 1.5C of warming.
