1. Atlanta's city council resolved unanimously to power its municipal buildings with renewable energy by 2025, and the entire city by 2035. It is the 27th US city to make the energy transition pledge. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/atlanta-renewable-energy_us_5907ca45e4b05c397681b81b?ir=Green&utm_hp_ref=green

2. Stephen Mulkey's essay Ecology, Loss, and Triage looks squarely at the state of the earth and has some personal, political, and ecological recommendations. Along the way he recommends Paul Hawkens' book Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reduce Global Warming, though he finds the book's assumption of concerted climate action problematic. https://environmentalcentury.net/ KQED interviewed Hawken on his book. https://ww2.kqed.org/science/2017/05/01/reversing-climate-change-california-author-offers-100-reasons-to-hope/

3. India added twice as much renewable energy as coal in 2016-17, and is committed to 40% installed renewable power capacity by 2030. https://cleantechnica.com/2017/05/01/india-added-twice-much-renewables-capacity-coal-capacity-2016-17/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IM-cleantechnica+%28CleanTechnica%29

4. Denmark is moving to withdraw all subsidies for renewable energy in the next few years because they are no longer necessary to achieve Denmark's goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030, 100% by 2050. https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-04-24/surprising-profits-and-how-an-energy-trail-was-blazed-in-denmark

5. The New Deal, the Kurdish experiments with direct democracy, and twelve other examples show that we are capable of great change when the need is also great. http://climatenewsnetwork.net/humans-better-rapid-change-think/?utm_source=Climate+News+Network&utm_campaign=035895ef3c-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_05_03&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_1198ea8936-035895ef3c-38803053 ?
