1. Three new assessments indicate faster and more severe sea level rise than had been anticipated in most formal projections. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/10/26/new-science-suggests-the-ocean-could-rise-more-and-faster-than-we-thought/?utm_term=.6c7db45dda52

2. James Hansen and his coauthors provided an example of sea level rise projections that far exceeded those implied in the above studies in their 2008 Ice Melt paper, which warned of multimeter rise by midcentury. In his informal paper Scientific Reticence: A DRAFT Discussion, Hansen addresses the lack of response to several of his papers, going back to 1981. http://csas.ei.columbia.edu/2017/10/26/scientific-reticence-a-draft-discussion/

3. In his book The Climate Swerve: Reflections on Mind, Hope, and Survival, Robert Jay Lifton sees us proceeding from a fragmentary awareness of climate change, composed of such images as crashing icebergs and drought-stricken farmland, to a formed awareness in which we have a narrative implicating such events. A formed awareness is necessary to lead us to confront the problem. In this interview Lifton shares insights on the forces which press for and obstruct climate action. http://e360.yale.edu/features/climate-change-and-the-human-mind-a-noted-psychiatrist-weighs-in?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+YaleEnvironment360+%28Yale+Environment+360%29

4. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has provided four maps and commentary which describe the charging network necessary to support the transition to electric vehicles in the next few years. The article links to the full report, which details the assumptions made in the calculations. https://energy.gov/eere/articles/future-electric-charging-stations-projected-4-simple-maps?utm_source=EERE+Weekly+Digest+of+Clean+Energy+News&utm_campaign=6e6a082157-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_10&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_96dffafa2f-6e6a082157-34498985

5. A partnership between the Solar Energy Technology office and Zillow has led to the inclusion of a Sun Number Score on Zillow listings. The score rates the suitability of a home for solar power on a scale of 1-100. https://energy.gov/eere/success-stories/articles/eere-success-story-sun-number-partnership-zillow-brings-solar-0?utm_source=EERE+Weekly+Digest+of+Clean+Energy+News&utm_campaign=6e6a082157-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_10_10&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_96dffafa2f-6e6a082157-34498985

6. New York could be seeing major storm surge flooding five times more frequently in 2030-45, due to higher sea surface temperatures and a general shift in hurricane tracks to the east and farther out to sea so that more major storms come ashore farther north. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/27/us/climate-change-new-york-city-floods-study/index.html

7. In a ranking of US cities by affected populations, New York City will be the most vulnerable to coastal flooding by 2050. (Miami is third.) http://www.climatecentral.org/news/us-cities-most-vulnerable-major-coastal-flooding-sea-level-rise-21748

8. The calculation of ocean temperatures in the past from the ratio of oxygen-18 to oxygen-16 in the shells of foraminifera has been recalibrated, indicating that current heating is more extreme than we had thought. https://www.sciencealert.com/ancient-ocean-temperatures-cooler-than-predicted Projections using historical data will need to be adjusted. ?Hansen's projection in item two is based on both history and models.

9. By redesigning the geometry of receivers in concentrating solar installations, Sandia Laboratories has increased their efficiency 20%. India intends to use small and medium size installations to power smaller towns; the new collectors will make such concentrating solar installations more competitive economically. https://www.azocleantech.com/news.aspx?newsID=24316
