1. About half the seafood consumed now comes from aquaculture. Seafood can be farmed sustainably, especially by moving the operations into deeper water with strong currents. https://theconversation.com/how-a-tiny-portion-of-the-worlds-oceans-could-help-meet-global-seafood-demand-82680

2. France plans to end all gas and oil production by 2040. http://news.trust.org/item/20170906101735-zq64k/?cid=social_20170906_73915307&adbid=905382080841891840&adbpl=tw&adbpr=89711639

3. Higher sea surface temperatures make for stronger hurricanes, and sea level rise increases flood damage. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/sep/06/twin-megastorms-irma-harvey-scientists-fear-new-normal With more water vapor in the atmosphere than we used to have, and more heat, the weather in general is influenced by global warming. Discussions of whether global warming causes this or that event are pinheaded.

4. In Minnesota, within two years it will be cheaper for utilities to store energy with batteries than to build gas plants to handle peaking load. Other areas will quickly follow. https://www.technologyreview.com/s/608273/grid-batteries-are-poised-to-become-cheaper-than-natural-gas-plants-in-minnesota/ As renewables plus storage become cheaper than any fossil fuel, market forces will turn against natural gas.

5. 31 US utilities, 43% of those surveyed, added power storage for the first time in 2016. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/articles/2017/09/report-31-utilities-added-energy-storage-for-the-first-time-in-2016.html?cmpid=enl_rew_energy_storage_news_2017-09-07&email_address=atilley@unf.edu&eid=291059574&bid=1858403

6. In his eight-minute video The Path Post-Paris Peter Sinclair interviews some well-informed people on the current course of the energy transition. It is an encouraging picture, though the US government's role is worrisome. https://climatecrocks.com/2017/09/06/new-video-the-path-post-paris/ ?
