“The Hook,” “The China Doll,” “The Green Ribbon,” and other stories surprisingly linked to greenhouse-gas emissions.

2. Hundreds of cities boast urban farms, but Detroit has the first sustainable urban agrihood, thanks to the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative. The three-acre development supplies 2000 households with organic food. Sustainable agrihoods “help tackle food insecurity and other community problems. They make it easy for people in low-income communities to get fresh, healthy food. And they give people a connection with the food they eat, the earth, and each other.” The brief video is inspiring. https://foodrevolution.org/blog/food-politics/first-sustainable-urban-agrihood/

The First Sustainable Urban Agrihood in the U.S. Could Serve As A Model for Urban Development<https://foodrevolution.org/blog/food-politics/first-sustainable-urban-agrihood/>

Could fresh, healthy, affordable food be the future of urban neighborhood development? In Detroit, Michigan, “the first sustainable urban agrihood” in the U.S. centers around an edible garden, with easily accessible, affordable produce offered to neighborhood residents and the community. Each year, this urban farm provides fresh, free ...

The story appears to be two years old; Detroit’s agrihood is said currently to be up and running. In other regions golf courses are being converted to produce farms, and communities are being anchored by agrihoods instead of golf courses. https://www.businessinsider.com/agrihoods-golf-communities-millennial-homebuyers-2017-10

Millennials are saying "so long" to the country club and "hello" to the farm. Rancho Mission Viejo/Facebook. A new type of housing community known as an "agrihood" is popping up around the US.

The climate connection is that growing a lot of our own food is a feature of the sustainable communities we will be developing if we are to adapt well to the disruptions underway, especially when we must relocate.

3. 130 academies of science and medicine report that our agricultural systems are faltering under the pressures of climate change. They recommend a reorientation which includes considerations of emissions and health. https://www.ecowatch.com/worlds-food-system-failing-new-report-2621850618.html?utm_source=EcoWatch+List&utm_campaign=565c494272-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_49c7d43dc9-565c494272-85965093

4. Atmospheric hydroxyl, OH, breaks down methane to the less dangerous carbon dioxide. It was feared that as methane increased the hydroxyl would diminish, making the methane more persistent, but new research shows that hydroxyl is maintaining a steady presence through interactions with other gasses and through the widening of the tropical region as the globe heats. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/11/181130153849.htm

5. France is planning to retire nuclear reactors when they have been notably successful in producing power from them. Renewables have gotten cheaper than existing nuclear plants, and no one knows how to gauge the cost of new ones. https://cleantechnica.com/2018/11/30/backstory-macron-to-close-multiple-nuclear-reactors-but-why-now/

Wind, solar, a continent-scale grid and open economic borders all contributed to the death of the French nuclear dream. It’s time for France to wake up and join the future, and it has.
