1. Ten families whose lives are already being disrupted by climate change, including one from Fiji and one from Kenya, are suing the European Union because its emissions target for 2030 is too weak to keep warming under 1.5C. Similar law suits are in process elsewhere. https://www.climateliabilitynews.org/2018/06/07/eu-climate-change-lawsuit/

2. CO2 can now be captured from the air for as low as $94 per tonne (equals 1.1 US tons). It can then be sequestered or used for carbon-neutral fuel. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-05357-w?sf191287565=1

I would bet that biochar is a cheaper way to sequester carbon, and am suspicious that this widely-discussed carbon capture technology be used to attempt further delay of the energy transition.

3. Paris's eco-community Clichy-Batignolles is centered on the 25-acre Martin Luther King Park. Due to be complete in 2020, it has already won the Sustainable City Grand Prize Award in the 2016 Green City Solutions Awards competition for its net zero, mixed income level, mixed use, walker friendly, drainage conscious design. It is intended to be a laboratory for and model of urban climate adaptation. https://ensia.com/articles/paris-is-building-the-eco-community-of-the-future-right-now-heres-how/

The village's site links to further information, some in French. The general presentation brochure is translated into English. The site was previously occupied partly by freight yards. http://www.clichy-batignolles.fr/english

A 2015 article sketches the public-private development strategy. http://oecdobserver.org/news/fullstory.php/aid/5309/Clichy-Batignolles:_Where_urban_planning_meets_the_climate.html

4. Senator Nelson's plea for climate planning was accompanied by pictures of flooding in Florida. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/fl-op-bill-nelson-sea-level-rise-20180607-story.html

5. Pope Francis has advised a gathering of oil executives that there is "no time to lose" in accomplishing the transition to renewable energy. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/09/world/europe/pope-oil-executives-climate-change.html ?
