1. High-tide flooding is a problem particularly on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. The number of days under water is expected to double from its 2000 level between May 2019 and next April, and to keep increasing after that. Finally, relocation of coastal communities on barrier islands or otherwise at low elevations will be necessary. https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/08/the-link-between-sea-level-rise-and-coastal-flooding/

What you need to know about the link between sea-level rise and coastal flooding By Jan Ellen Spiegel on Aug 8, 2019 Whether it's called 'high-tide' flooding, 'sunny day,' or 'nuisance' flooding, the problem is getting worse in many coastal communities.

2. If you are relocating but don’t have a new home town in mind, Yale Climate Connections suggests Duluth, Cincinnati, or Buffalo. https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/08/some-northern-cities-could-be-reborn-as-climate-havens/

Some northern cities could be reborn as 'climate havens' By Marcello Rossi on Aug 8, 2019 Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Duluth could become a new home for those fleeing from wildfires, hurricanes, and extreme heat in other places.

3. The Gulf Stream is slowing, but the role of the climate crisis so far is unclear. Heating will drive a slowing stream in coming decades, with consequences. https://phys.org/news/2019-08-gulf-stream-seas-hotter-florida.html

The Gulf Stream, the warm current that brings the east coast of Florida the mixed blessings of abundant swordfish, mild winters and stronger hurricanes, may be weakening because of climate change.

Tesla was just granted a new series of patents that shed some light on the techniques it will use on its upcoming curved and flat solar roof tiles. These design techniques will presumably be ...

The article does not mention that rainwater harvested from tiled roofs can be suitable for cisterns storing drinkable water. Asphalt tiles pollute their runoff.

5. Gas pipelines are being destabilized by a heating environment, and not just in permafrost country. A hotter atmosphere carries more water vapor. Erosion from increasing rainfall in PA is a problem for the methane industry, themselves responsible for the new moisture. https://climatecrocks.com/2019/08/09/climate-impacts-on-gas-infrastructure-increasing/

Fossil fuel industry finding Karma is real. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: There have been plenty of high-profile landslides dislodging and destroying oil and gas pipelines over the past few years, just as rains have wreaked havoc outside the oilfield — collapsing Route 30 in East Pittsburgh last year, opening up a giant sinkhole at a shopping plaza…

6. Unwelcome news from the Department of Agriculture has lead the administration to force resignation of scientists or remove them from the scene through rustication. Intellectuals (and the press) are often targets of aspiring autocrats. https://climatecrocks.com/2019/08/10/the-stupid-is-strong-trump-decapitating-us-science/

I used to wonder how, when countries go crazy, like Cambodia in the 70s, those that suffer first are often the best and brightest – scientists, teachers, writers, artists – you would think a popular movement would want to hold those people up, not crush them. Now, thanks to the Republican Party ...
