Following a two-year delay, the Oregon Court of Appeals has ruled in the Children’s Trust case that—essentially, with the understanding that I am no lawyer and may oversimplify—the state has no public trust preserving a livable environment. By Karen Savage. An Oregon court has ruled that the state is not required to protect public trust resources from the effects of climate change, a defeat for two young plaintiffs who had sued the state under the common law public trust doctrine.



2. Recent studies, particularly one in Nature last November which had to be revised to allow for more uncertainty, have found that more heat is being added to the oceans than we had supposed. A new study in Science reports that based on four different measures the ocean is indeed heating 40% faster than the UN had estimated five years ago.
