1. GE is closing its Inland Empire methane plant in Riverside CA. The plant, commissioned in 2009, is no longer profitable. It will be dismantled, and the site will be sold to a battery manufacturer. https://cleantechnica.com/2019/06/21/ge-will-shutter-california-natural-gas-plant-20-years-early/?utm_source=CleanTechnica+News&utm_campaign=6b59d1698b-Daily+Email+CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b9b83ee7eb-6b59d1698b-331994013

America’s coal-burning power plants are shutting down at a rapid pace, forcing electric utilities to face the next big climate question: Embrace natural gas, or shift aggressively to renewable ...

The claim that new technologies are needed to carry out the transition to fossil fuels is easily countered by pointing to regions which have already run carbon-free. Whether methane power is cheaper than renewables is entirely beside the point, which is to begin countering the climate crisis.
