The Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii, which has tracked atmospheric CO2 levels since the late 1950s, on Saturday morning detected 415.26 parts per million (ppm).


2. Melting of Antarctic ice sheets has increased five-fold since the 1990s and six-fold since the 1980s. Thinning is in progress in half the glacier basins of the Pine Island and Thwaites glaciers of the West Antarctic. If you know that water supplies are dwindling, should you be able to privatize aquifers, as Jeb Bush suggested? If you know people are going to have to move inland, should you be able to gain control of the high land and homes they will need to occupy, as hedge funds are said to be doing in central Florida? Should we not be nationalizing the oil companies, the grossest example of profiteering from climate catastrophe?

6. Jay Inslee’s expanded climate plan is intended to produce profits as it creates jobs. We may ethically profit from climate solutions. It is the difference between right occupation and the exercise of blind greed.
