1. Chico, CA, is a town of 100,000 which suffered in the Camp Fire along with its neighbor Paradise but escaped full disaster. It faced housing emergencies, profiteering, and general social stress, eventually putting in place a local version of the Green New Deal. Chico stands as an example of the necessity of a general program of social reconstruction to deal with the disruptions that accompany the climate crisis. https://theintercept.com/2019/11/07/california-wildfires-green-new-deal/?utm_source=The+Intercept+Newsletter&utm_campaign=bc5199ade2-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_11_09&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e00a5122d3-bc5199ade2-132835105

2. Oracoke, a community of 1,000 on a NC barrier island damaged by Hurricane Dorian, is receiving no clear guidance on whether, or how, to relocate. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/how-do-we-continue-to-have-life-here-amid-flooding-and-rising-sea-levels-residents-of-one-barrier-island-wonder-if-its-time-to-retreat/2019/11/09/dff076c0-fcab-11e9-ac8c-8eced29ca6ef_story.html

3. A review of the increasingly severe scientific opinions on the climate crisis portrays our growing alarm. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/08/opinion/sunday/science-climate-change.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_191110?campaign_id=2&instance_id=13708&segment_id=18674&user_id=8c547d53af6ff6fc7d49cb8612c07102&regi_id=436283741110

4. Several cities in CA have adopted building codes outlawing natural gas; similar measure are being considered in other states. Getting rid of methane use generally must be a goal if we are to achieve zero emissions. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2019/11/10/climate-change-solutions-more-cities-banning-natural-gas-homes/4008346002/

5. The climate crisis is putting our society under stress; so are the growing wealth gap and the increasing inability of our government to cope with change. A project which analyzes the responses to such stresses in the past warns of the possibility of social collapse and finds some hope in the prospect of sharing wealth, as in the New Deal of the 1930s. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/nov/12/history-as-a-giant-data-set-how-analysing-the-past-could-help-save-the-future

6. A new method of measuring hurricane strength, by the size of the area of total destruction, reveals that the worst storms have become over three times as common in the last century. https://climatecrocks.com/2019/11/11/yes-hurricanes-are-getting-stronger/
