1. Four brief videos will inform you on the role of ocean temperature and atmospheric water vapor in hurricanes, and explain that the past is a poor guide to future storms. https://climatecrocks.com/2019/08/31/climate-and-hurricanes-primer/

2. Hurricanes are moving more slowly and have an increasing tendency to stall. The climate crisis may be behind both the increasing strength (more heat, more water vapor, and so more energy) and the decreasing speed (as temperature differential between the Arctic and the equator shrinks so does the velocity of the steering winds). https://insideclimatenews.org/news/03092019/hurricane-dorian-climate-change-stall-record-wind-speed-rainfall-intensity-global-warming-bahamas

3. China’s Belt and Road Initiative develops fossil fuel infrastructure in 126 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The program is sufficient to make the attainment of a 2C limit impossible even if the world otherwise meets its 2C targets. A possible fix would be an international program to support green finance initiatives across the 126 countries and assess the environmental impact of Chinese investment. (That would mean supporting China’s plans for financial development.) Or China could drop or modify the Initiative. https://phys.org/news/2019-09-china-belt-road-paris-climate.html

4. Las Vegas is getting hotter faster than any other city in the US. The homeless have taken to sleeping in storm drains. People who drop dead on the street get post mortem burns from the pavement. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/sep/02/las-vegas-climate-crisis-extreme-heat-hellish-future

5. This Wednesday Sept. 4 from 5 p.m. ET to midnight CNN will conduct a series of town hall interviews on climate action with ten of the Democratic presidential candidates. https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/27/politics/cnn-climate-crisis-town-hall-democrats/index.html

6. MSNBC plans a similar series of town halls open to all declared presidential candidates on September 19-20. https://grist.org/article/msnbc-and-cnn-to-host-climate-events-for-the-presidential-candidates/
