1. BP may be serious about a transition to renewable energy. It intends to cut oil and gas production 40% by 2030 and increase renewable energy production to 50 gigawatts. To indicate the dwindling worth of fossil fuels, ExxonMobil has a market value less than two-thirds of Tesla’s. https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2020/08/04/bp-built-its-business-oil-gas-now-climate-change-is-taking-it-apart/?wpisrc=nl_most

2. Offshore wind power is projected to grow rapidly in the next decade, driven especially by planned installations in China and other countries in the Asian-Pacific region. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/aug/05/china-poised-to-power-huge-growth-in-global-offshore-wind-energy

3. Mona Dajani, “one of the leading deal-makers in the renewable energy industry,” describes in an interview the movement toward renewables she sees in the energy industry. https://climatecrocks.com/2020/08/04/pandemic-pushes-prodigious-pivot-past-petroleum/

4. The value of rooftop solar may be much more than the average cost of power because solar power is typically generated primarily in the afternoon at a time of heavy power use when the costs of production are greatest. A solar industry analysis indicates a value of 24 cents a kilowatt hour in Michigan. https://cleantechnica.com/2020/08/08/the-value-of-rooftop-solar-power-in-michigan-24-cents-per-kwh/

5. An Ohio farmer looks at the agricultural climate plan drafted by the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and finds much to admire. https://thehill.com/opinion/energy-environment/510679-house-committee-embraces-agriculture-as-a-solution-to-climate

6. While global lockdowns to control the spread of covid-19 have produced emissions drops, that alone will have little impact on the progress of the climate crisis as we return to work. An analysis in Nature Climate Change indicates that only a green recovery has the potential to halt the heating at levels which give us a decent chance of persisting. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/aug/07/covid-19-lockdown-will-have-negligible-impact-on-climate-crisis-study
