1. The price of battery power has dropped from over $1,000/kWh in 2010 to about $156 in 2019. At $100 electric vehicles become cheaper than the conventional ones. (That must mean cheaper to buy—I believe they are already cheaper to own and run, all costs considered, and the cars roughly equal in quality.) The $100/kWh battery could be the surprise which Tesla is promising for its September 15 Battery Day announcement. Tesla is also rumored to be developing a million mile battery. https://evannex.com/blogs/news/batteries-are-getting-cheaper-and-it-s-tesla-that-s-driving-the-bus

2. Million mile batteries may see several uses in their long lifetimes, each reducing the need for fossil fuels. The batteries in current electric vehicles are proving to last much longer than the 100,000 miles they were expected to deliver. https://grist.org/energy/million-mile-batteries-are-coming-are-they-really-a-revolution/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=daily

3. In the past 70 years heatwaves have accelerated in both numbers and duration worldwide. https://phys.org/news/2020-07-heatwave-trends-worldwide.html

4. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a project of Dominion and Duke Energy to carry fracked gas through 600 miles of forests, steams, trails, and towns in West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, is dead. Michael Brune: "If anyone still had questions about whether or not the era of fracked gas was over, this should answer them.” https://www.ecowatch.com/atlantic-coast-pipeline-canceled-2646347475.html?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1

5. The climate plan released by the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis properly frames a price on carbon as a necessary but not adequate control on emissions. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/carbon-pricing-is-not-enough-to-fight-climate-change/ar-BB16p0xG?ocid=msedgdhp

6. Denmark has enacted a law which compels the government to document each year its progress toward a set climate target of a 70% emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050 (without offsets). The targets were set to constitute Denmark’s fair part in limiting heating to 1.5C.Thanks to Brian Paradise for the story. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200706-the-law-that-could-make-climate-change-illegal?ocid=ww.social.link.email
