1. Climate scientists have used forcing scenarios to predict general change. Response theory offers a more sensitive way yielding more detail about such matters as the Atlantic currents. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-65297-2

2. Organizations representing about half of the global health force have signed an open letter to world leaders pleading for a green recovery from the coronavirus crisis. Specifically, fossil fuel subsidies could be better employed, and a recovery which addresses the climate crisis would have great public health gains. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/26/world-health-leaders-urge-green-recovery-from-coronavirus-crisis

3. By mid-century the rate of change in deep ocean habitats could be seven times faster than it currently is, even with significant cuts in global greenhouse gas emissions. “Our results suggest that deep sea biodiversity is likely to be at greater risk because they are adapted to much more stable thermal environments.” Species which depend on one another will be dislocated, leading to population crashes. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/26/climate-change-in-deep-oceans-could-be-seven-times-faster-by-middle-of-century-report-says

Phys.org provides more details from the Nature Climate Change article. https://phys.org/news/2020-05-deep-ocean-slowlybut.html

4. Scotland is close to its target of 100% renewable energy. Richard Dixon urges that they not stop there—England is a market for any surplus energy. https://www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/scotland-about-hit-its-100-renewable-electricity-target-it-must-go-further-richard-dixon-2864016?utm_campaign=Carbon%20Brief%20Daily%20Briefing&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Revue%20newsletter

5. The development of electric airplanes is limited primarily by battery technology. Current batteries have permitted the development of the electric 9-passenger Cessna Caravan with a range of 100 miles. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/27/worlds-largest-all-electric-aircraft-set-for-first-flight

6. The UK, which will host COP26, has asked that the climate conference be delayed again until late next year because of the travel problems arising from the coronavirus. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/26/cop26-climate-talks-in-glasgow-likely-to-be-delayed-again
