1. Arizona’s First Solar, the largest manufacturer of solar panels, is building a new and enormous factory in Ohio. The response from the fossil fuel industry (false grass-roots movements, bull guff) indicates the scale of the threat they think it poses to them. https://climatecrocks.com/2021/06/09/as-clean-energy-ramps-up-fossil-funded-attacks-intensify/

2. The landscape beneath an ice sheet determines how fast it could slide into the ocean. We don’t yet have accurate assessments of the landscapes, and do not yet know how to model their impact. Until we can do that, projections of sea level rise will remain imprecise. https://phys.org/news/2021-06-rocky-road-accurate-sea-level.html

3. Aptera has been working for over a decade to produce a three-wheel two-seater vehicle which incorporates enough solar cells to keep it running 11,00 miles a year, does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds (equaling the performance version of the Tesla 3), tops out at 110 mph, has enough room to carry your surfboard or a tent, is said to be sturdy and safe, and costs $26,000. They have released their second protype and intend to begin production this year. Perhaps it is time to take them seriously. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1132540_aptera-sol-1-000-mile-solar-supplemented-ev-teases-tent-space-for-a-surfboard

4. Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry described for a conference five factors in stabilizing the climate at 1.5C: leadership by the US, the energy transition, a carbon price in international trade, global economic coordination, and innovative ways to scale up our efforts. https://www.agweb.com/news/business/conservation/john-kerry-5-steps-stabilize-global-warming

5. Finless Foods will offer a plant-based raw tuna next year for use in sushi and poke bowls. The mouth feel and taste are said to be a counterpart to the impossible burger vis a vis hamburger. The audience is not vegans, but people who want to reduce meat consumption for environmental reasons. https://cleantechnica.com/2021/06/11/finless-foods-set-to-introduce-plant-based-tuna-by-2022/

6. The passive cooling in a tiny house uses techniques and materials applicable to other types of construction. One is a phase change material which holds temperatures of 77F; cedar slats over cork siding provide insulation and shading with negative net emissions. https://rmi.org/passive-cooling-in-a-tiny-house/

7. If we concentrate on emissions reduction alone, we may convert grasslands to forests (for example), and devastate the region’s biodiversity. Protecting and restoring nature can serve both ends, as with Senegal’s restored mangroves. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/10/climate/biodiversity-collapse-climate-change.html?campaign_id=2&emc=edit_th_20210612&instance_id=32878&nl=todaysheadlines&regi_id=43628374&segment_id=60543&user_id=8c547d53af6ff6fc7d49cb8612c07102
