1. Climate disruption-born heat waves are a great challenge to health and to medical facilities, and medical authorities are calling for climate action. Health care itself is the source of about 8.5% of US emissions, and both facilities and companies are pledging to do their part in meeting Biden’s goal of cutting emissions in half by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/07/18/climate-change-is-pushing-hospitals-tipping-point/

2. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, the anti-Manchin, uses a Twitter thread to list climate action measures that the administration could and should take now that we are in a declared climate emergency. https://twitter.com/SenWhitehouse/status/1548017198991478784?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

3. As the president has declared a national climate emergency, he will be able to deploy “around 130 different powers.” Presidents have declared 60 national emergencies since 1976, mostly for natural disasters. https://news.yahoo.com/what-it-would-mean-for-biden-to-declare-a-national-climate-emergency-204936091.html?utm_source=email&utm_medium=editorial&utm_content=news&utm_campaign=220720

4. Some of the fastest growing cities in the US are the worst equipped to live with the growing heat—Phoenix, Austin, San Antonio. A development plan driven primarily by greed is not turning out well. What percentage of FL development has a horizon of more than a few years? How much will be under water when? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jul/20/us-fastest-growing-cities-risk-becoming-unlivable-climate-crisis

5. As rooftop solar grows, so does the flood of required permits and inspection documents. SolarAPP+, developed by the National Renewable energy Lab, the Solar Energy Industries Association, and other partners, can handle all that quickly for contractors. https://cleantechnica.com/2022/07/19/safer-faster-cheaper-rooftop-solar-how-solarapp-is-cutting-through-bureaucracy-to-boost-solar-deployment/

6. GAF Energy now has two factories producing the Timberline Solar roof. The cells are limber, capable of being nailed like standard roofing, can carry wind loads up to 140 mph, may be walked (or hailed) upon, and provide solar roofing at about half the price of a Tesla roof. They come with a 25 year warranty. GAF is already the world’s largest roofing manufacturer. https://cleantechnica.com/2022/07/20/gaf-building-second-solar-shingle-factory-in-texas/
