1. Gunther Tallinger, a board member of Allianz SE, warns that the heating climate is endangering the insurance industry and therefore capitalism. Our adaptation planning should include a transition to more resilient financial systems, at least to the limit of the ecological possibility of broad-scale formal organization. The current breakdown of the stock market and international trade relations lend urgency to the topic, but the storms, heat, water supply problems, and sea level now on our doorstep are yet more imperative. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/apr/03/climate-crisis-on-track-to-destroy-capitalism-warns-allianz-insurer
 2. The recent finding that 4C of heat would reduce personal wealth by 40% may imagine inadequately the conditions under which personal wealth would exist in such a world. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/apr/01/average-person-will-be-40-poorer-if-world-warms-by-4c-new-research-shows
 3. March 2025 was the first time that fossil fuels contributed less than half of US grid energy. The contribution from solar power was up 37% from the previous March. https://ember-energy.org/latest-updates/fossil-fuels-fall-below-50-of-us-electricity-for-the-first-month-on-record/
 4. Australia is considering extending its power subsidies to residential batteries. The effect would be to lower the cost of energy and to render communities more resilient. https://reneweconomy.com.au/home-battery-rebate-hailed-as-most-crucial-consumer-energy-policy-since-rooftop-solar-heres-how-it-will-work/
 5. Items one and two pose a challenge: imagine a future, consistent with the best we know about future conditions, in which we are at home in the world, doing our bit to support the entire community of living beings. Items three and four help me imagine that world, which is still pretty foggy to me. I believe that it will involve new kinds of communities. Housing is one factor. We already know how to build sustainably. We also know what we should be eating--see the Planetary Health diet. Communities may support that diet. Agrihoods take different forms but all supply substantial portions of their own food. https://agrihoodliving.com/ Two agrihoods are now under development in my region of NE Florida. https://www.newsbreak.com/share/3848750359869-agrihoods-the-latest-in-mixed-use-developments-will-soon-be-in-northeast-florida?s=a3&share_destination_id=MjE3NzU2ODQxLTE3NDE2MTAxMDc3MjE=&pd=0EjgV7rH&hl=en_US&send_time=1741610107&actBtn=bottomBar&_f=app_share&trans_data=%7B%22platform%22%3A1%2C%22cv%22%3A%2225.9.0%22%2C%22languages%22%3A%22en%22%7D&sep=ns_foryou_rank_exp_25q1-v7%2Cns_foryou_recall_exp_25q1-v8%2Cns_foryou_model_exp_25q1-v5%2Cns_local_strategy_25q1_exp-v17%2Cns_foryou_blend_exp_25q1-v4%2Cns_push_exp_rt_bucketv12-v4
