1. Survivalism blends into climate adaptation, particularly for liberals. Illiberals tend to see the future in terms of contests, with firepower and bunker architecture weighing heavily. Liberals hope to build a supportive community. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2025/apr/17/preppers-liberals-climate-collapse
 2. For the quite illiberal, the anticipated contests of the future can manifest in the present as fascism. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2025/apr/13/end-times-fascism-far-right-trump-musk
 3. CO2 in the lower atmosphere grew by a record 3.75 ppm last year. That is 25% more than the previous record growth. The US government downplayed the finding and did not supply explanations. https://thinc.blog/2025/04/23/graph-of-the-week-2024-co2-rise-downplayed-by-neutered-noaa/ The growth is “incompatible with the target of 1.5C of heating. Diminished absorption of CO2 by forests, including the Amazon’s, may have played a role. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c30dn5dn53jo
 4. China’s CATL will begin producing a sodium battery for electric vehicles in June under its Naxtra brand. They are expected to be cheaper, safer, and more stable than lithium batteries, but somewhat less powerful. (The prices have not yet been released.) CATL expects them to replace half of the lithium, iron, and phosphate batteries now in use. Since sodium is so common the batteries are obviously more sustainably produced than current batteries. https://insideevs.com/news/757347/catl-sodium-ion-ev-battery-loves-cold/
