An Argument that President Trump Should Support Renewables and Cease Hostilities with Venezuela
1. The momentum of the energy transition is probably unstoppable. Their growth curve is such that fossil fuel reserves will be left in the ground. https://www.forbes.com/sites/alanohnsman/2025/07/28/green-energys-unstoppable-global-growth/
2. The project of keeping oil prices high by limiting Venezuelan oil from the market is likely to fail because the declining market from rising renewable use will outpace the rise from artificial scarcity. The conclusion of my AI analysis: “While a sudden loss of Venezuelan oil would cause an immediate price spike, the ongoing and accelerating growth of renewables represents a larger, more sustained force that is expected to keep prices under pressure in the long term, ultimately having a greater influence on the market's direction.”
3. A Venezuelan war will be expensive. The money might be better used in moderating the rise in health costs. https://www.stimson.org/2025/the-strategic-costs-of-us-strikes-against-venezuela/#:~:text=It%20would%20also%20be%20exceptionally,%2C%20incurring%20long%2Drun%20costs.
5. Renewables are so popular that supporting them could counter President’s Trump’s problems in other areas.
I have attempted to couch my argument only on grounds I presume are significant to the administration. List members may well consider the energy transition necessary to survival, and war best avoided for reasons beyond the financial.
