1. Two significant technological developments: windows which serve as solar panels with high efficiency and short payback, and bricks which store electrical energy as heat at >95% efficiency. Steel mills, cement plants, and other heat pigs can now operate with renewable energy and take their headquarters buildings off the grid. https://cleantechnica.com/2024/12/12/clean-tech-news-from-clearpower-and-electrified-thermal-solutions/
2. An inflammatory diet has been linked strongly to dementia. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2024-12-inflammatory-dietary-habits-linked-higher.html?utm_source=nwletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily-nwletter
3. The Planetary health Diet is excellent at avoiding inflammation, as well as disastrous climate developments and world hunger. It’s your most effective climate action. Flexible. Fun! And you may avoid being demented as well. https://eatforum.org/eat-lancet-commission/eat-lancet-commission-summary-report/
4. With the completion of the newest and largest solar farm east of the Mississippi, Municipal Chicago now runs entirely on renewable energy. (30% of the total comes from energy credits, which they intend to replace with locally generated power.) By 2035 Chicago intends to meet the needs of all buildings in the city renewably. https://grist.org/cities/chicago-renewable-energy-black-diamond-solar/
5. Major oil ports will be overwhelmed by a sea level rise of a meter, projected as likely in the coming decades of this century. It is a nice indication of the suicidal side of the fossil fuel industry. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/04/climate-driven-sea-level-rise-set-to-flood-major-oil-ports
