1. 74% of Americans believe that meat eating has little or no climate impact. That’s not surprising; only about a quarter of media articles mention agriculture at all as an emissions source, though it supplies a third of them, second only to fossil fuels. Less than 4% mention meat production, which contributes 60% of agricultural emissions. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/sep/27/meat-gas-emissions-reporting
2. The Trump administration has banned the use of some 200 terms, including “injustice,” “climate change,” “sustainable,” “tax breaks,” “emissions,” and “green.” This administration has its humorous side. I am reminded of the trickster figure: sly and stupid, the enemy of boundaries. How do we deal with this childish, greedy, self-assured, pre-moral side of our national character? At the end of The Tempest, Shakespeare’s Prospero looks at Caliban and says “This thing of darkness I acknowledge mine.” That’s not an answer to the problem of how to deal with a trickster, but it is a start. It is unthinkable that Prospero would follow Caliban in any matter. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/30/energy-department-climate-change-crisis-language
3. The LFP battery is appearing, and the prospects for a solid state battery have just gotten a big boost from a new production technique from Corning. Mercedes-Benz has gotten 843 miles on a single charge from a protype. https://cleantechnica.com/2025/09/30/the-solid-state-ev-battery-race-heats-up-as-corning-quantumscape-join-forces/
4. A new process for producing LFP powder from brine in the US promises to lower the cost for this battery component, usually bought from China, by 40%. It’s a big step toward more efficient, even safer, and cheaper electric vehicles with a much longer range. https://cleantechnica.com/2025/10/01/lfp-powder-that-cost-40-percent-less-electroflow-says-its-possible/
5. The UK’s Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit reports that emissions growth has dropped five-fold since the Paris Accords in 2015. While much remains to be done, the finding supports a claim that the energy transition (a term now forbidden within the US government) has become “unstoppable.” https://www.theenergymix.com/emissions-growth-slows-5-fold-since-paris-deal-as-clean-energy-becomes-unstoppable/?utm_source=The+Energy+Mix&utm_campaign=c54eef468b-TEM_RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dc146fb5ca-c54eef468b-510008578
