UNF's Annual Coming Out Week, 10/11 - 10-/15
The LGBTRC is excited to welcome Executive Director Rea Carey of the National Gay and Lesbian Task force for annual Coming Out Week from October 11-October 15, 2010. The event will kick off with a Coming Out Day Fair, on National Coming Out Day, at the Student Union. Show your pride and learn what the campus and Jacksonville community have to offer for the LGBTA population. On Oct. 14, Rea Carey will then speak about the State of the LGBT Movement .
Meeting to Discuss Recent Gay Youth Suicides, 10/12, 3:30pm, 58W/3605 -- Members of the campus community are invited to attend a special meeting of the Commission on Diversity's Subcommittee on LGBT Equity. This meeting will address the recent suicides of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth around the country and discuss efforts at UNF to support all students, faculty and staff. Candlelight vigil to remember the youth who have passed away, 10/12, 5:45pm-7pm, Members of the community are invited to attend the vigil starting at the Gandhi Statue located between Daniel Hall, Building 1, and Founders Hall, Building 2. After gathering, the group will then move to the Student Union Osprey Plaza for the rest of the vigil.

Save the Date - A Community in Change, 10/15
The annual Coming Out Day Breakfast brings together people from the small business, corporate, educational and professional communities that have been active in supporting LGBT equality.
Working together, these communities are making Jacksonville a more LGBT-welcoming and inclusive city and at the same time improving our local economy. We invite you to join us in celebrating the activities and accomplishments that are making Jacksonville a "community in change", and a viable place for our LGBT youth to grow and thrive.
The breakfast is co-sponsored by Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network (JASMYN , Inc.) and the UNF LGBT Resource center. Teaching Respect for All: Creating Safe Schools
for LGBT Students - 10/25
Teaching Respect for All: Creating Safe Schools for LGBT Students is a one-day seminar that aims to provide current and prospective school teachers, counselors, social workers, and administrators with the knowledge and tools to successfully create a school culture where all people, including LGBT people, are respected, free to express themselves, and able to reach their full potential.
The seminar is sponsored by JASMYN and the UNF LGBTRC and is funded by the Chartrand Foundation. Vigil Remembers LGBT Youth Suicides-10/12
Members of the campus community are invited to attend a candlelight vigil to remember the youth who have passed away due to harassment at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Gandhi statue located between Daniel Hall, Building 1, and Founders Hall, Building 2. Living with Pride Discussion Series
Living with Pride is a discussion series on healthy living for the LGBT and ally communities. Every other week, the LGBT Resource Center and PRIDE Club will explore a different issue affecting LGBT people and their allies.
Please join us for discussion as we hear from community leaders and students about student leadership and activism. Annual Student Leadership Summit-10/15
The Summit is designed to be a high impact leadership development experience. All UNF students are invited to this very special event. There is no cost, but space is limited. The program starts with lunch at noon, includes great speakers, workshops and exhibitors, and continues into the early evening with a "Leaders' Reception" complete with food and culminating with a concert. Student participants will discover the opportunity to learn a great deal and have lots of fun.
Points are earned toward the Institute for Value, Community and Leadership's Leadership Certificate which demonstrates knowledge and practice of leadership grounded in values, integration, and community engagement. More than 300 students are expected to participate in this day-long event. Speakers include Dr. Reuben Brigety, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Jacksonville native, and Jon Gordon, entrepreneur, businessman and author of several best-selling books on leadership.
