> The LASA Archives, Libraries, and Digital Scholarship section is proud to announce its inaugural 2021 section award recipient, the Caseidyneën Saën – Learning Together: Colonial Valley Zapotec Teaching Materials project.
>
> Caseidyneën Saën is a volume of open access, pedagogical resources centered on an archival corpus of endangered Valley Zapotec-language materials created during the Mexican Colonial period. Despite it using colonial archival materials, it celebrates Zapotec knowledge, practices, and continued fight for survival and recognition. The project is an active, ongoing collaboration involving Zapotec and non-Native scholars as well as Zapotec community members:
> George Aaron Broadwell, University of Florida
> Alejandra Dubcovsky, University of California, Riverside
> Xóchitl Flores-Marcial, California State University, Northridge & Zapotec communities of Oaxacalifornia & Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca
> Moisés García Guzmán, Zapotec community of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya
> Eloise Kadlecek, Bryn Mawr College ‘22
> Collin Kawan-Hemler, Haverford College ‘22
> Brook Danielle Lillehaugen, Haverford College
> Felipe H. Lopez, Haverford College Libraries and Zapotec community of San Lucas Quiaviní
> May Helena Plumb, University of Texas, Austin
> Mike Zarafonetis, Haverford College Libraries
>
> The selection committee was greatly impressed by the incredible work our section members are undertaking. We invite our community to explore the digital resources, archives, and research projects that were nominated:
> Projeto de Extensão - Memórias das Lutas por Terra no Estado do Rio de Janeiro
> AMA y No Olvida, Museo de la Memoria contra la Impunidad
> The Programming Historian en español
> The Haitian American Dream Timeline
> Archivo Rubén Darío Ordenado y Centralizado (AR.DOC-UNTREF)
> Archivo El Insulto
> Latin American and Caribbean Indigenous Languages at the John Carter Brown Library
>
> The Section Board would also like to recognize the life and work of Edgar "Huracán" Ramírez, an "archival hero" we unfortunately lost this past year. Edgar was the leading force behind the rescue and processing of the Archive of the Bolivian Mining Company (COMIBOL) in El Alto, Bolivia. According to his nominator, “he did for the historical record what few archivists would have dared to do, in the midst of Bolivia's turbulent history since independence.” To read more about Edgar’s legacy and COMIBOL, please see S. Sándor John’s In El Alto, Bolivia, Ex-Miners Rescue Their History, Part II.
>
> The Section Board would like to sincerely thank the award subcommittee for all of their work in not only putting together the award call, but also in serving as the selection committee:
> Laura Martin, University of Wisconsin-Madison
> Barbara Miller, Cal State Fullerton
> Marcy Schwartz, Rutgers University
> Victor Sierra Matute, New York University
>
> Many thanks to the nominators, the selecting committee, and to our community members for creating such incredible work. Again, congratulations to the Caseidyneën Saën team!
