Subject: Invitation to contribute to DHI edited volume

Colleagues-

I am forwarding this call for abstracts on behalf of Drs. Jessica Chandras (j.chandras at unf.edu) and Wanzhu (Julie) Shi (wanzhu.shi at unf.edu).

Julie and I are excited to share with you an opportunity to contribute to a proposed Digital Humanities edited volume. We've titled the proposed edited volume Boundary Brokers: Transforming Digital Humanities with AI and Emerging Tools in and Beyond the Classroom, and it will explore the integration of digital tools and methodologies in the Digital Humanities across disciplines. Julie and I envision this volume to build out of the Digital Humanities Digital Tools Learning Community that I ran this past spring and spring before in 2024. Our goal is to bring together short chapters (around 4,000 words) on a selection of case studies that illustrate how digital tools are reshaping research, pedagogy, and practice in higher education. We invite chapters exploring the opportunities and challenges presented by digital methodologies, especially AI tools and technology, offering insights into their practical applications, theoretical implications, and transformative potential. You would be welcome to write about a specific tool, program, or AI feature you use in your teaching or research.
A longer proposed book abstract and timeline for submissions are included in the attached document. Overall, this book will be an interdisciplinary edited volume exploring innovative uses of digital tools in teaching and research across humanistic disciplines.

If this is something you would be interested in contributing to, we ask you to submit a document with a 200-word abstract about your proposed chapter by August 8th. In this document and abstract, please include the following details as part of your chapter description and email it to either me (Jessica) and/or Julie (emails listed above):

  *
A title and summary of the content, angle, and purpose
  *
Challenges and opportunities in adopting or applying the DH tool/program you would like to focus on
  *
The aim and impact of using the tool(s)

Please also include, apart from the 200-word abstract:

  *
Your name, affiliation, and position
  *
Relevance to one of the volume’s proposed 4 parts (see attachment)
  *
An estimate of the number and type of figures/illustrations (black & white or color), and the images’ copyright information (preferably held by the author or under Creative Commons)

We’ve set a deadline for August 8, 2025, with the goal to submit a book proposal with compiled chapter abstracts to a couple publishers by mid-August, including Bloomsbury Press’s Digital Humanities and Digital Cultures series, as this series editor has already expressed interest in reviewing a proposal for this volume.
In the meantime, please feel free to reach out if you have questions, concerns, or would like to brainstorm or run any ideas by us. We’re so excited to put this project into motion and look forward to the opportunity to collaborate together. Please feel free to share this call with other colleagues who you think may be interested!

Sincerely,
Wanzhu (Julie) Shi
Jessica Chandras
