1. A Lutheran church in the Black Forest region has covered its roof with solar panels and used the proceeds to put panels on school roofs. The Creation Windows project had to fight the local utility and local authorities who saw the panels as historically inauthentic. Thanks to Dick Bizot and his sister Ruth for the story. http://sojo.net/magazine/2012/03/heavenly-energy#.UokL5zQEOmE.email

2. Carbon emissions are expected to rise to a new record high this year, 61% above 1990 levels. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/19/us-global-carbon-emissions-idUSBRE9AI00A20131119

3. An interactive map allows you to see emissions increases since 1960 by country or groups of countries. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/interactive/2013/nov/19/global-carbon-emissions-compared-over-time

4. The UN’s Christina Figueres told a group of coal industry executives that most coal should be left in the ground and the industry should transform itself “radically and dramatically for everyone’s sake.” http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/nov/18/leave-coal-avoid-climate-catastrophe-un

5. James Hansen and several other distinguished scientists have filed an amicus curiae brief describing what would be necessary to preserve the kind of climate under which civilizations developed. CO2 emissions must be reduced by at least 6% annually and forests must be restored on a wide scale. http://ourchildrenstrust.org/sites/default/files/FiledScienceAmicus.pdf

6. Just 90 corporations (and, I would add, the governments which support them) are responsible for nearly 2/3 of greenhouse gas emissions to date. Their decision makers would fit on one or two Greyhound busses, which would then include the people who decide to use their resources to prevent action. Half the emissions came in the last 25 years, over which we knew what the effects were and are to be. http://www.businessinsider.com/climate-change-90-companies-2013-11
Here’s an interactive display of the guilty 90. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/interactive/2013/nov/20/which-fossil-fuel-companies-responsible-climate-change-interactive

7. 132 countries walked out on the Warsaw talks after wealthy nations deferred to 2015 decision on compensation for climate damages. http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2013/nov/20/climate-talks-walk-out-compensation-un-warsaw
