1. Two new studies in Nature Climate Change indicate that we must begin cutting carbon emissions immediately or face a much more difficult situation than the present. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/nov/21/world-delay-drastic-emissions-cuts

2. A new way of calculating global temperatures indicates that heating since 1997 has been more than twice the Met Office estimate. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2013/nov/13/global-warming-underestimated-by-half

3. Submarine permafrost in the East Siberian shelf is releasing large amounts of methane. Arctic storms increase the releases. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn24639-arctic-storms-speed-up-release-of-methane-plumes.html?cmpid=RSS%7CNSNS%7C2012-GLOBAL%7Cclimate-change#.UpNDq18o670
The new study doubles the estimated release of methane in the Arctic. http://news.yahoo.com/twice-much-methane-escaping-arctic-seafloor-041738506.html Becky Oskin’s LiveScience article’s estimate of the global warming potential of methane is shamefully misinformed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global-warming_potential The Arctic News estimates the future methane release based on the new study. http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/

4. Direct atmospheric measurements show that methane release in the US from human activity is 1.5 times the current EPA estimate. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/26/us/emissions-of-methane-in-us-exceed-estimates-study-finds.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20131126

5. The US, Norway, and the UK have founded the Initiative for Sustainable Landscapes to support the world’s forests. http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2013/11/20/2975011/norway-deforestation-funding/

6. The Warsaw conference ended with a set of agreements which will ease future negotiations. Among the results: the distinction between developed and developing nations is abandoned. All countries are to set their emissions goal well in advance of the 2015 Paris talks. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/131124/key-points-the-warsaw-consensus
Some feel that the talks are insufficiently productive and may need recasting. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/11/24/un-needs-global-warming-answer/3693173/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+usatoday-NewsTopStories+%28USATODAY+-+News+Top+Stories%29
Kofi Annan calls for a global grass-roots initiative to prod governments into actions adequate to the situation. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/25/opinion/climate-crisis-who-will-act.html?emc=edit_tnt_20131124&tntemail0=y&_r=0

7. Enough industrial solar power is installed or underway in the US to supply 5 million homes. A continuing buildup depends on solar prices and new pressures on utilities, among other factors. http://e360.yale.edu/feature/for_utility-scale_solar_industry_key_questions_about_the_future/2713/

8. Tapes of the 20 minute interview I did on the local effects of climate disruption for our ABC affiliate, Ch. 25, have been posted as parts one and two for November 17. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/politics/onpoint/default.aspx
