1. Austfonna, the largest European ice cap by area and second by volume, has become partially unmoored and is moving rapidly toward the sea. http://phys.org/news/2015-01-satellites-austfonna-ice.html It has lost about 1/6 of its thickness since 2012. http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Observing_the_Earth/Satellites_catch_Austfonna_shedding_ice General info on Austfonna from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austfonna

2. Analysis of one tide gauge site shows sea level rise in Miami of 1.27" a year over the last five years and accelerating. Thanks to Tom Larson for the lead. http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2015/02/sea_level_rise_threatens_to_drown_miami_even_faster_than_feared_um_researcher_finds.php Obviously, we need confirmation from other sea level monitoring sites and further analysis of the data, but this rate of rise demands investigation.

3. Sea level in the NE US jumped five inches in 2009-10, probably due in part to a 30% decrease in the flow of the Gulf Stream. http://mashable.com/2015/02/24/sea-level-rise-spike-northeast/

4. Three informed letters to the NY Times observe that geoengineering is no substitute for emissions controls but a kind of tourniquet to be used in extreme emergencies, and needs to be researched. (Subs. req.) http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/24/opinion/fighting-back-against-climate-change.html?_r=0

5. The propaganda campaign attacking the EPA's proposed emissions regulations is well funded and uses a network of front groups. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/feb/23/lobbyist-dubbed-dr-evil-behind-front-groups-attacking-obama-power-rules

6. A report by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory indicates that financing a solar array saves 19-47% over leasing. http://cleantechnica.com/2015/02/24/financing-solar-pv-system-can-save-30-solar-lease/?utm_source=Cleantechnica+News&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=e4f09e5f97-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_b9b83ee7eb-e4f09e5f97-331994013

7. In the US, the Northeast and the Gulf area are most vulnerable to the impact of losing shellfish to acidification. http://grist.org/climate-energy/this-map-shows-where-your-states-oysters-are-in-trouble/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Daily%2520Feb%252024&utm_campaign=daily
