1. In 1989 Amory Lovins adopted a typo, negawatt, as a unit of energy saved by conservation or efficiency. Negawatts are still cheap and reliable, and have the power to reduce peak demand, making them a great adjunct to renewable power. http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/energy/blogs/negawatt-ready-its-closeup

2. A coalition of twenty US Attorneys General is investigating whether Exxon and other fossil fuel corporations committed climate fraud when they pursued increasing fossil fuel production while suppressing their knowledge of the damage the fuels would do to the climate. http://ecowatch.com/2016/03/30/climate-change-investigation-exxon/

3. The Obama administration is abandoning plans to open millions of offshore acres in the mid and South Atlantic to oil drilling. Plans remain to auction new drilling sites in the Gulf of Mexico and the Arctic. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-03-15/obama-said-to-bar-atlantic-coast-oil-drilling-in-policy-reversal

4. A mass bleaching incident in the Great Barrier Reef is due to record ocean temperatures. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/planet-oz/2016/mar/30/link-between-fossil-fuels-and-great-barrier-reef-bleaching-clear-and-incontrovertible-say-scientists

5. A study in Nature uses historical data in modelling sea level rise and suggests that IPCC projections be doubled to two meters by 2100 unless emissions are controlled. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/30/sea-levels-set-to-rise-far-more-rapidly-than-expected

6. The first triple hybrid renewable energy power plant, combining geothermal, pv, and thermal solar power sources with a joint capacity of 61 MW, is operating in Nevada. It achieves about 5% savings in energy costs over the sources separately and is expected to be a model for such operations elsewhere. http://www.pv-magazine.com/news/details/beitrag/worlds-first-triple-geo-pv-solar-thermal-power-plant-unveiled-in-nevada_100023938/#axzz44RanvoHc

7. Renewable power companies won contracts for 1,720 MW of power in Mexico's first private auction. Mexico, now 25% "clean energy," intends to be 35% by 2024. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-03-29/mexico-first-power-auction-awards-1-720-megawatts-of-wind-solar ?
