1. Jeff Goodell's The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World is worth reading. The book is well informed on sea level rise, but is interested mostly in how people and their communities are experiencing and anticipating it. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/water-will-come-must-read-book-sea-level-rise

2. New York City and the State of New York have announced separate plans to divest their pension funds from fossil fuels. Both plans include new investments in clean energy. https://www.commondreams.org/news/2017/12/20/undeniable-victory-cheers-follow-proposals-divest-massive-new-york-pensions-fossil

3. Bill McKibben puts the NY divestments in the context of the global divestment movement he has helped organize. https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/the-movement-to-divest-from-fossil-fuels-gains-momentum?mbid=nl_Daily%20122317%20Subs&CNDID=18164692&spMailingID=12622384&spUserID=MTMzMTc5Njc3ODE1S0&spJobID=1302083515&spReportId=MTMwMjA4MzUxNQS2

4. Trump has removed climate change from the list of threats in the National Security Strategy. The Environmental and Energy Study Institute has prepared a brief on the history of climate risk analysis and action by the Department of Defense and related US government entities. http://www.eesi.org/papers/view/issue-brief-the-national-security-impacts-of-climate-change

Climate change had been added to the National Security Strategy by President Obama. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/dec/18/trump-drop-climate-change-national-security-strategy

5. MSN has listed ten ways global warming could change personal finances, including destabilized mortgages, insurance, and property values. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/personalfinance/10-ways-global-warming-will-change-your-personal-finances/ss-BBGKLC0?li=BBnbfcN#image=2

6. The California Air Resources Board has approved a plan to cut the state's greenhouse gas emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Emissions cuts will essentially be carried out twice as fast as presently. CA's utilities are on schedule to achieve 30% renewable power by 2020 and 50% by 2030. The plan is expected to save up to $11 billion in avoided environmental damage in 2030. https://www.utilitydive.com/news/california-air-regulator-approves-bold-plan-to-reach-2030-climate-goals/513276/

7. CNN's eleven-minute tape on the melting of Greenland does a fine job of taking us there. https://climatecrocks.com/2017/12/23/spectacular-cnn-on-greenland-melt/?
