1. A current Science article has sketched the economic impact of global warming on the US. Florida and the south generally suffer the worst of the damage. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/06/29/climate-change-in-the-u-s-could-help-the-rich-and-hurt-the-poor/?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.1a293631d676 The purpose of the article is to improve calculation of the social cost of CO2. http://www.sciencemagazinedigital.org/sciencemagazine/30_june_2017?sub_id=KOh704Udnq9u&u1=20117138&folio=1362&pg=94#pg94

2. Game of Thrones is having a disconcerting difficulty in finding locations now that winter has come to the series. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jun/29/game-of-thrones-jon-snow-climate-change

3. A Dutch startup promises the Lightyear car, which will generate energy through solar cells on its roof and can travel 500 miles on a charge so that the car might run for years without having to be plugged in. It is expected to be expensive, but might be imitated more affordably. Because it will not require an infrastructure of charging stations it could be significant to the development of EVs. http://inhabitat.com/lightyear-unveils-solar-powered-car-with-a-500-mile-driving-range/?utm_source=Inhabitat+Weekly+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=6e8a460cd0-&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_edda39917e-6e8a460cd0-207513645 I read a blog post by a guy in Miami who calculated that it took 1.5 kilowatts of his rooftop solar power to drive his Chevy Bolt 13,500 miles a year. The Lightyear must be counting on an admirably efficient panel on their car's roof, and perhaps on a much less powerful engine.

4. Bill McKibben writes that as local and state authorities attempt to carry out the Paris agreement to further the energy transition, we must watch to see that they are committed to 100% renewable energy by 2050, that they move to keep fossil fuels in the ground by not developing new supplies or supporting infrastructure, and that they drop the idea that natural gas will be of any use in the transition. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/features/how-politicians-must-fight-climate-change-in-the-trump-era-w489549?utm_medium=email&utm_source=actionkit

5. Corrected satellite data now concur with surface measurements and weather balloons to indicate 30% more global warming since the 1990s than had been previously indicated. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2017/06/30/corrected-satellite-data-show-30-percent-increase-in-global-warming-matching-surface-data/?utm_term=.1c7eed3778e3

6. One way to store renewable energy is to use it to fractionate water and store the hydrogen for use in fuel cells. While the fuel cell for personal transportation remains problematic, its use in mass transportation and heavy machinery is becoming widespread. http://mailchi.mp/climatenewsnetwork/hydrogen-fuel-reaches-lift-off?e=ea792e87f2 ?
